Woke Vote’s Mission

Woke Vote is a not-for-profit entity focused on turning out low-propensity voters in critical states and cities. They aim to empower local communities to fight for the policies they need and elect the officials that will help them at the local and national level. As part of their approach, they hire and train organizers who go on the ground in cities to register and engage with potential voters. Those cities are the most critical ones that will impact outcomes for 2020.

The Challenge

Equip Woke Vote with a digital tool that enables a broader and more streamlined execution of the organization’s specific voter turn out tactics.

The tool had to be designed and built within 3 weeks before state voter registration deadlines began and had be built in a way that would be easy for the Woke Vote team to manage and maintain.

Solution

We created a step-by-step guide that walked users through the voting process i.e. how and when to register, how and when to vote, key documents, and deadlines for each step. The information was specific and unique to each state, relying on the open Vote America API.

We also created an easy to manage custom CMS using google sheets which we handed off to the Woke Team where they could update copy, API key and visuals.
